3-Day Itinerary for Visiting Pagosa Springs, Colorado

Day 1: Arrival and Natural Wonders

Morning:

When you visit Pagosa Springs on your first day, we suggest you start out after breakfast and take a walk along the river on the Riverwalk Trail. The trail starts at the hotel and meanders into downtown. Along the banks are places to sit and enjoy the birds and views of Pagosa Springs. The trail is flat and paved, making for an easy walking tour. Check out the restaurants and shops in the downtown area before heading back to the hotel.

After your morning walk, we suggest you head to Treasure Falls, a stunning 105-foot waterfall about 15 miles northeast of town. You can see the falls from the parking area or take a short hike uphill to get to the base of the falls. The trail is well maintained and has an evaluation gain of over 300 ft, so take it slow and plan about 45 minutes for the round trip.

River tubing at Pagosa Springs.

Afternoon:

After all that walking, you will need to grab some lunch. Come back into town and pick up food at one of the local stores or the bakery on the main street. Enjoy a picnic lunch at Reservoir Hill Park—a serene park with beautiful walking trails and an observation deck with panoramic views of Pagosa Springs. Or, if you would rather relax after all the hiking and walking, bring your lunch back to the hotel and sit in the Gazebo by the ponds or at River Center Park right next to the hotel. Listen to the birds, relax in the sun, and enjoy the views.

After your picnic, we suggest you take a soak. You can either book the hot tub at the hotel, making it an easy walk to your room to nap before dinner or head to one of our three hot springs in Pagosa Springs. Our local hot spring resorts offer diverse experiences, and all have day passes for guests. Depending on which you select, you can also have a massage in the spa.

Soak in the healing mineral waters and let go of any stress.

Evening:

In the evening, enjoy dinner at one of our staff's favorite Pagosa Springs Restaurants; a number are within walking distance of our hotel in Pagosa Springs. Select from a range of cuisines from Southwestern to international. Two close restaurants include Beny's Authentic Mexican Restaurant, which serves generous margaritas, and Riff Raff on the Rio, a down-to-earth local pub serving house-crafted brews and great food.

Day 2: Visit Pagosa Springs and Enjoy Outdoor Adventures

Morning:

Enjoy a filling complimentary breakfast in our breakfast room. Make waffles, and enjoy fruit, cereal, and fresh coffee before heading out.

Begin your outdoor adventure with a visit to the San Juan National Forest. There are numerous trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Consider the Piedra River Trail or the Four Mile Falls Trail for a picturesque hike.

Afternoon:

Enjoy the access to the river from the hotel. In the summer we suggest renting a tube and heading out to the back of the hotel to float on the San Juan River. A tradition in Pagosa Springs, when the water has warmed up, and the river levels are low. Various local outfitters offer tube rentals so you can enjoy the cool and refreshing waters. As you get closer to downtown, pull off on the side and take a warm bath in the river, where there are natural pools of hot springs. This is a free hot spring experience and very relaxing.

Alternatively, if the water is still too cold, explore the wilderness by booking a guided Jeep tour, or dog sled ride in winter, allowing you to venture deep into the rugged terrain and witness breathtaking vistas.

Evening:

After an active day, take some time to unwind in the hotel hot tub and cedar sauna and recharge at one of our recommended Pagosa Springs restaurants with many options just a short walk from the hotel.

Day 3: Cultural Discoveries

Morning:

Enjoy breakfast in our sunny breakfast room, and then begin your day with a visit to the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Park, just a 7-minute drive from our Pagosa Springs hotel, where you can observe native wildlife up close, including elk, deer, and bison.

Late Morning:

Explore downtown Pagosa Springs, a quaint and charming area filled with art galleries, boutique shops, and cafes. Don't miss Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership, where you can learn about sustainable gardening and see beautiful greenhouses.

Afternoon:

Take a scenic drive to Chimney Rock National Monument, an archaeological site of ancestral Puebloan dwellings. Guided tours are available at certain times of the year, providing insights into the history and culture of the region.

Evening:

End your three-day adventure with a relaxing evening sitting by the pond and listening to the river in our outdoor gazebo. Purchase a bottle of wine from the liquor store next door to enjoy. It is the perfect place to unwind and reflect on your Pagosa Springs experience before dinner at a local restaurant.
